In fact, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post called the first edition the ?bible of cross-border shopping'. The book sold out in just 10 months. In her current release, The "Updated Version", she mainly focuses on fashion but has also included a new section on buying original Chinese antiques. First time author and Hong Kong resident Ellen McNally says her motivation for writing the book was to make a shopping spree to Shenzhen, a short 40-minute train ride from Hong Kong, a fun and pain free experience. "Tourists and local residents alike have so little time to shop that they want to make their experience efficient and get value for their money.
I want to make it easy for them and give them a comfort level even before they cross the border into China," McNally explains. The first edition was snapped up by English speaking Hong Kong shoppers eager to find bargains in the world's newest shopping Mecca.
Tourists to the area have endorsed the book as well.
"McNally takes you by the hand. Were it not for this super little book, I would have turned back and gone to my nice hotel room in Hong Kong.
The guide was so great, I went back twice!" said Ros Pleatman of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Shop in Shenzhen ? an insider's guide, is an easy to use guide, the size of a CD box and if used wisely before and during a trip to Shenzhen, it saves shoppers time, energy and money. McNally gives you:? How to get there, what to expect, what to do besides shopping? Where to shop? How much to pay and how to negotiate the best deals? Where to find the best deals on everything from handbags, to massages, jewellery, tailored clothes, shoes, boots and much more?..???????? Ms. McNally first heard about shopping in Shenzhen when one of her HK friends raved about the deals in this warehouse city. She decided to check it out and found fabrics to die for, excellent custom tailoring for a song, pearls, semi-precious stones, handbags, shoes and much more?all at amazing prices. It took her two years of research to unearth all the deals but after that first trip, McNally made it her mission to help shopaholics with champagne tastes get their fashion fix at Chinese prices.
McNally has certainly taken the frustration out of Shenzhen shopping. She has covered Lowu Commercial City, a huge mall, in detail with specific shop recommendations for close to 100 product and service categories. The guide also covers the city's main shopping areas including furniture and antique shops. This new release covers everything you need to know about buying original Chinese antiques (and having them delivered to your country!) in the city of Zhuhai, just over an hour away by Hong Kong's comfortable and convenient ferry system.
"Shop in Shenzhen ? an insider's guide" is available at local Hong Kong bookstores, at the airport and on McNally's website, www.shopinshenzhen.com.
It retails for HK$95. ($US12.00) Ellen McNally had a successful career as a corporate marketing consultant in America prior to relocating to Hong Kong. She also worked as a marketing research director for several multinational corporations. She is currently working on her next book. ????????????.
